I wasn't expecting to see this in Paphos

April 29, 2017

After a hectic few months, I decided a break was in order to soak up some sun and recharge my batteries.  I love to travel and of course whenever I do, one of my cameras are always close to hand.

Bags and camera packed, I headed to the beautiful island of Cyprus and stayed on the west coast in the city of Paphos which coincidently is also the European Capital of Culture for 2017

As part of the programme for Capital of Culture, I was fortunate enough to be invited to an exclusive launch of a Photography Exhibition being held in the stunning 5 star Almyra Hotel right on the waterfront.  'Saltiness' was the very apt name for this sea inspired exhibition portraying photography with togetherness.

The event started with a champagne and canapé reception followed by a short video from the Sophia Foundation Children's Charity, one of the leading sponsors for the exhibition. After a short talk from the event coordinators, we were lead through into the exhibition room to view the beautifully framed shortlisted photographs.

The judges were on hand to score the photographs and it was easy to see that even early on in the evening, there were some clear favourites.

Several of the images were amazing and I would be proud to hang them on my wall back home; others however, felt more like casual snaps but I guess that is the beauty with photography, it is so subjective. It is for this reason I always endeavour to show the full output of my studio sessions to help clients decide on which prints to purchase – after all their favourite image may not always tally with mine. Lot’s of photographers almost force the decision when it comes to selecting images, often promoting the most technically sound image as opposed to the client’s favourite.  Here at Abigail’s photography I always let the client have the final choice.

All in all it was a fabulous evening, spent with fellow photographers and people who truly value and appreciate the Art of Photography. I left incredibly inspired, albeit a little full after one too many of the nicest mini lemon meringues I've ever tasted.
