Hurray, it is World Photography Day! The aim of World Photography Day is to encourage everyone to share a photograph with the simple purpose of sharing their world with the rest of the world.
We live in a fast paced world and photography is no exception. Long gone are the days when you had to send a film of to the developers and wait a week or so to see your photographs. We can take as many photographs with our smart phones as we like and simply delete the ones that we don't want. We have endless amounts of storage on our phones or up in the cloud. I have over 2,000 photographs on my phone and I can only imagine how many photographs I have on my laptop. 30 years ago, unless someone was a keen photographer, you would be lucky to have a handful of photographs from holidays and special occasions whereas no, people take hundreds of photographs a day of the most mundane of activities things such as lunch.
As a society, we are documenting our world on a daily basis, detailing differences in cultural and geography, traditions and rituals, leaving behind us a catalogue for future generations.
Personally, photography places a massive part in my family and work life. Professionally, my camera is my livelihood and I adore capturing photographs for families to treasure for a lifetime. Equally, I love to photograph my locations, holidays and day to day events such as lunchtimes, bath times and visits to the park.
The development in photographs over the last 150 years has been incredible and now everyone has the opportunity to share their little world with the rest of the world. Let's never take that for granted.
