Ballet Photography in Cheshire

My heart was beating out of my chest.

I was stood in the darkness and then all of a sudden, I heard the orchestra start to play. The curtains rose and the spotlight dazzled my eyes. Before I could even think about it, I was dancing across the stage. One of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I started ballet classes in a local ballet school when I was 2.5 years old and still remember my dad taking me to class and I was sat on his handle bars (can you imagine that these days, there is no way I would ride a bike with Lottie on the handle bars!).

When I was 7, I went to the Liverpool Theatre School and I loved my ballet classes. Sybil played the piano for our barre exercise and dance routines. I still remember her lovely kind face that beamed when she saw us all dancing (she must have been in her late 70’s back then bless her). I always looked forward to my weekly classes doing what I loved the most. Dance.

I worked my way through the grades, learning the syllabus and studying the french vocabulary. Exams came and went and eventually it was my turn to get my very own pointe shoes. Now I really did feel like a ballerina. Being in shows was wonderful. exhilarating. Being an older one, I would look after the little dancers, hold their hand and reassure them back stage.

I gave up ballet at 17, a Saturday job, driving licences and nights out in 6th form seemed more important to me then. Sometimes I wish I had stuck at it but I think when you’re so passionate about something, it never fully leaves you. Fast forward a lot of years, and I fell in love with ballet all over again and it is very much back in my life and a weekly fixture once again.

Next summer, I will be back on the stage, feeling the same feelings that I did over 20 years ago but what make this time even more special….I will be sharing the stage with the most precious little lady in my life. My Lottie

Now it is her time to fall in love with ballet for the first time.
